Nissan Looks Towards the Future of Autonomous Driving

Remember when you were a kid and you dreamed of the day when The Jetsons was actually a reality? Well, we aren’t at the flying car stage, but we’re getting closer and closer to the autonomous vehicle and Nissan is helping to lead the charge to making that one day become a reality. With the pace of which automakers and tech companies have been introducing vehicle prototypes, automated drive features have been accelerating. For some, that’s an exciting thought, but for others, it’s a very scary proposition! I mean, cars…actually driving themselves? How would that actually work?

Recently, Nissan hosted forum in Washington, D.C. that explored the future of autonomous vehicles. This forum gave lawmakers, regulators and other U.S. government officials a close up view, as well as a reassuring look at how Nissan is in the driver's seat when it comes to automated drive technologies. So for those of you who are scared of the prospect of having a car fully drive for you, Nissan may be able to help your insecurities come to a halt.

Nissan has a very different perspective from other approaches. You know, that scary approach that seems to focus only on removing the driver from the driving experience. Instead, Nissan has a philosophy of not replacing the driver in an automated vehicle. Nissan has a goal of wanting to enhance the driver's experience by introducing technologies that make cars more intelligent and more exciting partners.

As technology begins to work towards tackling the complicated task of driving, today's driver will first experience systems assisting them, with systems like the Nissan ProPILOT Assist. The good news is that with the Nissan ProPILOT Assist, the driver will remain in full control of the vehicle.

As, lawmakers and others continue to search and understand the opportunities, challenges, realities and misconceptions of the future of autonomous vehicles, Nissan wants to help keep the conversation moving forward.
